Bulgaria: Drop in Bulgaria’s Jobless Rate among Largest in EU in February

Bulgaria has shown one of the largest rates of year-on-year decrease in unemployment among the European Union Member States in February, according to fresh figures from Eurostat.

Compared with a year ago, the unemployment rate fell in 24 of the 28 Member Statesin February with the largest decreases registered in Cyprus (from 16.6% to 12.6%), Spain (from 23.2% to 20.4%), and Bulgaria (from 9.8% to 7.4%), the EU statistical office said in a statement on Monday.

Unemployment remained stable in Belgium andincreased in Austria, Latvia and Finland.

The EU-28 average unemployment rate was 8.9% in February 2016 - down from 9.7% a year earlier and the lowest rate registered in the bloc since May 2009, Eurostat said.

Germany had the lowest unemployment rates in the EU in February 2016 (4.3%), followed by the Czech Republic (4.5%). The highest unemployment rates were recorded in Greece (24.0% in December 2015) and Spain (20.4%).
