Bulgaria’s Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski has proposed to dismiss Tsvetelin Tsvetanov, head of the Road Transport Administration Executive Agency, who was arrested earlier this week over suspected wrongdoing in licensing procedures at the agency.
Tzvetanov’s deputy, Krasimir Kalaidjiev, has been proposed to serve as interim execitive director of the government agency.
Moskovski has submitted the proposal to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov on March 30, the same day when news of Tsvetanov’s arrest emerged, according to a statement posted on the website of the Transport Ministry.
A total of 14 agency officials including Tsvetanov have been arrested in a country-wide sweep against suspected “corruption practices” at the agency responsible for issuing certificates to road transport companies as well as driving licences.
Nine people of those arrested face charges of being part of an organised crime group and receiving bribes, the Chief Prosecutor's Office said in a statement on 1 April. Tsvetanov has been charged with being leader of the group.
