There are 1800 children of migrants in Bulgaria, for whom request for international protection has been submitted.

A total of 1200 of these children have been registered as unaccompanied, private NOVA TV informs.

The number of minors is 1600, while 215 are under the age of 14 years.

Almost all of the migrant children are boys.

This was announced by the chairperson of the Agency for protection of children, Eva Zhecheva.

According to the law, children under the age of 18 can not be forced to stay in refugee centres against their will. For this reason, many of them leave the centres and end up in the interior of the country.

There were 460 such children in the past year.

No one knows what happens to the children after they leave the refugee centres.

There have been cases of children registered in Bulgaria, who had left a refugee centre and were later found in Germany where they had reunited with their parents.

The possibility of such children being recruited by terrorists remains a considerable problem.

The fate of all migrants' children remains unclear even if they are registered.

The problems arise from the difficulties in establishing their exact age and the fact that in most of the cases the children travel with people who are not of their kin.
