The Council for Electronic Media, which regulates TV and radio stations in Bulgaria, will consider the resignation submitted by its head Georgi Lozanov in February.

Lozanov announced he was stepping down as both board member and chairperson.

He cited a pending registation request for a new TV station called PIK. Making clear there were no legal grounds to issue a denial, he explained he did not want to legalize the "aggressive and hostile rhetoric" used by pik.bg, a news agency owned by the same person now willing to launch a television.

Local media have linked Pik.bg to Delyan Peevski, a controversial MP and media mogul.

The regulator has not yet issued a decision on the TV license demand.
