A hostage siege at a factory in Sydney's southwestern suburb of Ingleburn left one people dead and two other injured on Monday.

Reports suggest the 43-year-old gunman who was armed with an automatic rifle shot himself, news.com.au informs.

Shortly before that, three hostages were led out of the building by tactical officers and driven away from the site.

According to media reports, all three victims were brothers, with the incident being of domestic nature.

The two injured men were admitted to hospital where one of them is undergoing an emergency surgery, while the other is being treated for superficial wounds to the lower parts of his body.

Earlier, a man was detained for hindering the investigation while the gunman was still inside the building.

All three men suffered from gunshot wounds, with witnesses claiming to have heard five shots.
