Bulgaria: Heavy Traffic Expected Across Bulgaria on Sunday as Long Weekend Comes to End

Heavy traffic is expected across Bulgaria on Sunday as the long weekend, which began on Thursday with the celebration of the country’s national holiday (Liberation Day), is coming to an end.

According to estimates, a total of 330 000 Bulgarians left their homes to spend the holiday period somewhere else.

The Road Infrastructure Agency (API) announced that it will suspend the movement of trucks above twelve tonnes on motorways and the busiest roads between 14 and 20 o’clock (EET) on Sunday.

The ban is not applicable to vehicles transporting goods with short shelf life, goods stored at temperature regime, live animals and dangerous goods (ADR).

Intensive traffic is expected at the entrances of Sofia, on Hemus, Trakia and Struma motorways and on the I-1 (E79) road between Kulata border checkpoint and Sofia.

API calls on drivers to be careful, to consider their speed with the meteorological conditions, to observe the introduced restrictions, road signs and marking and the instructions of traffic police.

There will be two lanes for traffic going in the direction from Pernik to Sofia on the E79 road between 10 and 16.30 o’clock (EET).

Citizens and transport firms can obtain the latest traffic information from the free mobile application LIMA, the website of API and the 24/7 telephone line 0700 130 20.
