The armed opposition fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have agreed to a two-week week truce beginning from midnight Saturday, but the government and its allies must not launch attacks, the Syrian opposition has said, according to Reuters.
"The High Negotiations Committee confirms the agreement of the Free Syrian Army factions and the armed opposition to a temporary truce," the newswire quoted the HNC as saying in a statement on Friday.
The HNC added that the government and its allies must not use the "proposed text to continue the hostile operations against the opposition factions under the excuse of fighting terrorism".
Bashar al-Assad was reported to have said earlier this week that he was accepting the plan for for cessation of hostilities drafted by Russia and the United States.
