Bulgaria: UK Sets Date for EU Membership Referendum

The United Kingdom is to hold a referendum on its membership in the European Union this year on June 23, the country's Prime Minister David Cameron has announced.

With the referendum campaign in place as of today, Cameron has added the cabinet will support the "in" vote.

The Guardian quotes him as saying a move to leave the EU would "threaten [Britain's] economic and national security".

"We are approaching one of the biggest decisions this country will face in our lifetimes," he has added. "You will decide and whatever your decision I will do my best to deliver it."

Cameron's words follow a two-day EU summit where he secured a deal between Brussels and London on a series of measures Britain will enforce if it decides to stay in the bloc this summer.
