In case parliamentary elections were held today, 24.1 % would vote for the largest ruling party GERB, 11.9 % would support the largest opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), while 40.4 % would not cast a ballot.

This is revealed by the latest political and economic index of Gallup International released on Tuesday.

The regular monthly opinion poll was conducted among 1005 people in the period between January 29 and February 4.

The second largest opposition party, the Movements for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), would win 6.8 % of the votes, followed by the junior coalition partner, the Reformist Bloc (RB), with 5.3 % and one of the parties supporting the ruling coalition, the Patriotic Front (PF), with 3.6 %.

The other party supporting the coalition government, the Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV), and nationalist Ataka remain below the electoral threshold of 4 %.

At the beginning of February, 27 % of Bulgarians had confidence in the government, with mistrust being 59 %.

Only 16 % of Bulgarians assessed parliament positively, with negative views being 72 %.

A quarter of Bulgarians had confidence in the president, with mistrust being 59 %.

In general, the confidence in authorities retained the levels registered in the past year.

At the end of last year, confidence in authorities and the largest ruling party increased due to the victory of GERB in the local elections, but in the first weeks of 2016 the level of trust returned to its usual levels.

The confidence in the government and parliament is similar to the level recorded in the advanced stage of the first term of Boyko Borisov as prime minister.

The majority of Bulgarians continue to be pessimists, with around 60 % believing that the country is heading for the worse and only 20 % thinking it is heading for the better.
