The Bulgarian nomination for UN Secretary-General will be unveiled by the end of March.

This was by announced by Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in London on Thursday where he is participating in the international conference “Supporting Syria and the Region”.

Borisov noted that Bulgaria is conducting talks with diplomats from many countries, but did not specify who will be the nominee of the government.

In his words, Bulgaria wanted to make sure that the Bulgarian candidate will garner unanimous support.

He expressed hope that the talks will be concluded soon, with the deadline being set for the end of March.

In the past months, the names of UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and European Commission Vice-President Kristalina Georgieva have been widely circulated as possible Bulgarian candidates.

Both of them have been identified as possessing good chances of being selected as the successor of Ban Ki-moon whose term expires at the end of the year.

Back in 2014, the government of then Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski nominated Bokova for the position, but the incumbent cabinet has not yet announced whether it will back her or propose another candidate.
