Bulgarian Education Minister Todor Tanev submitted his resignation on Monday, the government's press service informs.
Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov demanded the resignation of Tanev last week over the systematic problems in the education system and the proposed controversial changes to the school curriculum which have not been subject to broad public discussion.
Tanev did not submit his resignation immediately, saying he will not step down before he has had a meeting with Borisov.
At the weekend it emerged that after his resignation, Tanev will be appointed as an adviser to the prime minister.
At a meeting with the junior coalition partners from the Reformist Bloc (RB) last week, Borisov said that he will leave it to them to determine the candidate for new minister.
Following two extraordinary meetings of representatives of the parties constituting RB, Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva was proposed as Tanev's successor.
Borisov approved the proposed candidate and will table Kuneva's nomination for voting in parliament on Wednesday.
The government's press service informs that Borisov and Kuneva had a meeting at which they discussed the acceleration of reforms in the education system and the adoption of stricter anti-corruption legislation.
Also on Monday, it emerged that Deputy Education Minister Vanya Kastreva will also submit her resignation.
