Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva has been nominated as new Bulgaria’s Education Minister to replace Todor Tanev.

The nomination was announced on Friday evening by the Reformist Bloc, the junior partner in the minority coalition government led by Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

On Thursday, Borisov demanded the resignation of Tanev and his entire team.

The nomination was a unanimous decision of the executive council, the Bloc’s co-chair Nayden Zelenogorski told reporters after an extraordinary meeting of the parties in the Bloc.

Meglena Kuneva has agreed to accept the nomination, he added.

Tanev has not yet submitted his resignation.

Parliament is expected to vote on the nomination of Meglena Kuneva on Wednesday.
