A former Justice Minister was approved by Parliament on Thursday as a Deputy to the National Ombudsman of Bulgaria.

Diana Kovacheva was unanimously supported by the 152 lawmakers present in the plenary hall.

Her candidacy was proposed by Maya Manolova, who assumed office in October of last year.

Kovacheva, a Justice Minister in the first Government of Boyko Borisov, had been a CEO of the Bulgarian branch of Transparency International before taking up her first political office.

There were four other nominations, including the current Deputy Ombudsman Hyusein Ismail who served under Manolova's predecessor, Konstantin Penchev.
