Winter Tourism: 1.8 Million Visit Bulgaria
Bulgaria has witnessed a bustling winter tourism season, with a total of 1.8 million tourists gracing its picturesque landscapes from December 1 to March 25
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) issued a yellow code warning for cold weather in sixteen regions of Bulgaria on Wednesday.
The yellow code alert is issued for the regions of Sofia, Sofia province, Pernik, Kyustendil, Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Razgrad, Targovishte, Shumen and Silistra.
The minimum temperatures in these regions are forecasted to be between minus 15 and minus 10 degrees, with the maximum not expected to exceed 0 degrees.
Despite the low temperatures, the weather will be mostly sunny, clear and calm in larger parts of the country.
Fogs or low cloud cover are expected in the regions in proximity to the Danube river, with no precipitation expected. At present there is snowfall in the region of Smolyan.
The minimum temperatures will range between minus 18-19 degrees in the Danube plain to minus 3-4 degrees in the southeastern regions and along the Black Sea coast.
The daily temperatures will range between minus 10 degrees to 3-4 degrees in the southeastern regions.
The daily temperature in Sofia is expected to be around minus 3.
The lowest temperature on Wednesday morning was measured in the town of Knezha – minus 21 degrees.
