Warnings have been issued in 21 out of Bulgaria's 28 regions over severe weather conditions, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute (NIMH) with the Bulgarian Academy of Science has said.

A Code Orange (second degree) alert is in force in Sofia, Sofia Region, Pernik, Kyustendil, Pazardzhik, Lovech, Gabrovo and Veliko Tarnovo. Harsh conditions could bring cause material damage and human casualties.

Separately, a Code Yellow (lowest degree) warning has been extended to Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Ruse, Targovishte, Razgrad, Silistra, Blagoevgrad, Smolyan, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, and Kardzhali.

Some or all third-degree roads across the country might have to be closed due to the heavy snowfall if it continues on Saturday evening, the Road Infrastructure Agency has said, urging those intending to travel in the weekend to refrain from doing so in the regions where weather alerts are in force.
