According to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Bulgaria should be admitted to the Schengen Area in order for the EU to be able to deal more effectively with the ongoing refugee crisis.

Orban added in an interview for a public radio on Friday that the EU should establish a new frontier on the northern border of Greece in order to halt the migrant influx to Europe.

In his opinion, the agreement between the EU and Turkey will not be enough to hold the refugee wave, Reuters quotes him as saying.

According to him, Macedonia should be provided with financial support and other assistance in order to reinforce its defences.

Orban said that after welcoming a million migrants last year, Germany has recently shifted towards “common sense” and the country has started to enforce measures on slowing down the arrivals of refugees.

However the Hungarian prime minister pointed that the focus should be not on slowing down, but on stopping the refugee flows.

Last year's decision of Hungary to erect fences along its southern border had initially attracted criticism from the EU, but later other member states took similar measures against the refugees either by building fences or heightening border controls.
