Serbian police arrested 79 people, including a former minister, in a comprehensive operation in the fight against corruption.

This was announced by Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic on Saturday, Tanjug news agency quotes him as saying.

Apart from the former minister, among the arrested were also two former assistant ministers, presidents of municipalities, directors of public companies and businessmen.

The authorities estimated that the damage caused by them exceeded EUR 100 M.

Stefanovic added that the investigations have been ongoing from 2004 to the present and assured that the operation will continue and no one would be spared.

He noted that most of the frauds had been in connection with construction land.
