Spanish conservative People's Party (PP) is having a clear lead in the general election held Saturday.
However, PP of Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy will not garner enough votes to form an independent majority, with nearly all votes counted.
Rajoy's conservatives, who have been in power since late in 2011, have garnered abou 28.7%, with Socialists lagging behind at 21%.
Next come left-wing, anti-austerity Podemos party (at nearly 20%) that was established only several years ago, and liberal Ciudadanos at 13.8%.
The result, which is a defiance of the status quo in SPanish politics of the last decades, translates into 122 seats for PP, some 91 seats for socialist opposition PSOE, 69 for Podemos, and 40 for Ciudadanos.
