Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has put forward the candidacy of Ekaterina Zaharieva, the President's Chief of Staff, as a successor to the outgoing Justice Minister.

This comes following an announcement by a member of the Reformist Bloc, the junior partner in Borisov's GERB-led government, that Zaharieva is the common nomination on which GERB and the RB have agreed.

Earlier, it was reported that the two main coalition allies would propose separate nominations, with Borisov to choose out of them.

Borisov introduced Zaharieva to the Council of Ministers, where both attended the regular cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning.

Zaharieva has been caretaker Deputy PM in two interim cabinets (March-May 2013 and August-November 2014) appointed by President Rosen Plevneliev. Between 2009 and 2012, she was Deputy Minister for Regional Development and Public Works, at the time Rosen Plevneliev was in office as minister before winning the presidential elections in 2011.

Hristo Ivanov stepped down after Parliament refused to back two of his proposals for judicial reform that lawmakers had initially supported.

A vote in Parliament on Zaharieva's nomination is due on Friday.
