Bulgaria: Bulgarian Authorities Detain Three Human Smugglers

Bulgarian authorities detained three Bulgarian citizens suspected of smuggling foreigners with dangerous profiles over the country's borders.

The suspected smugglers were detained a specialised joint operation of the interior ministry and the State Agency for National Security (DANS) under the guidance and supervision of the regional prosecution in Plovdiv.

The group provided transport, accommodation and false identity documents and organised the subsequent illegal entry of the foreigners in neighbouring countries.

The operation is part of the joint efforts of the interior ministry and DANS on uncovering and busting criminal groups involved in the illegal transfer of foreigners through Bulgarian territory.

The operation is related to the heightened counter-terrorist measures, which have been enforced in view of the increasing number of terrorist attacks around the world.

Work on establishing the identity of the foreigners smuggled by the Bulgarian traffickers continues.
