Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry Georgi Kostov did not exclude the possibility that the suspicious luggage found in a minibus parked outside terminal 1 of the airport in the Bulgarian capital on Tuesday had been in contact with explosives.

The information of a suspected bomb in the vehicle closed the terminal for hours on Tuesday, with all flights redirected to terminal 2.

Kostov pointed in an interview for private NOVA TV on Wednesday that two people had entered the country with the white minibus, with both of them no longer on Bulgarian territory.

Their identities have been established, with both of them coming from a former Soviet republic and not being EU citizens.

One of them flew to a member state of the EU, while the other one headed towards a country of the former Soviet Union.

In the words of Kostov, the route chosen by them was not a usual practice.

He added that the vehicle and the two people have a risky profile, which does not necessarily mean that they are bad people. Their profiles were drawn following the attacks in Paris on November 13.

The chief secretary pointed that two dogs and two different devices detected the presence of explosives in the vehicle.

According to him, a possible reason for the delusion is the presence of many cosmetic products in the luggage.

Kostov was firm that no explosive devices have been found in the luggage.

Terminal 1 restored normal service on Wednesday.
