Turkey remains interested in the implementation of joint energy projects with Russia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
“Turkish Stream [gas pipeline project] was discussed - interest confirmed; Akkuyu [nuclear power plant project] - interest confirmed. The area for interaction is very wide," the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday following a meeting between Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The head of Russia's Gazprom Alexey Miller was also present at the meeting, according to RIA Novosti.
Peskov also said that Putin and Erdogan had held an extensive discussion on Syria.
“Differences remain on a number of issues but the dialogue has been constructive as a whole,” Peskov said, according to TASS.
The Russian presidential spokesman also announced that a meeting of the Russian-Turkish Cooperation Council, to be chaired by Putin and Erdogan, will take place in Saint Petersburg on December 15. The conflict in Syria, energy projects as well as boosting trade and tourism links are expected to be high on the agenda of the meeting, Anadolu Agency said.
The two presidents met for about an hour behind closed doors on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the Turkish resort of Antalya.
Moscow and Ankara have yet to sign an intergovernmental agreement to build Turkish Stream but they are at odds whether the project should kick off with a single branch for Russian gas deliveries to Turkey only, or a second branch should be laid alongside it, stretching to Turkey’s border with Greece for deliveries to customers in southern Europe.
