At least five people were injured in an explosion followed by a fire occurring at a bread factory in the Romanian city of Brasov on Thursday evening.

Prefect Mihai Mohaci said that the five injured, who had not lost consciousness were transported to the County Emergency Hospital, AGERPRES news agency quotes him as saying.

State Secretary Raed Arafat stated that more victims are being searched for as there are suspicions that other people may lie under the debris.

A Plan Red has taken effect with first response crews being doubled by emergency crews mobilised from bordering counties.

An explosion followed by a fire at the Colectiv nightclub in Bucharest last week claimed the lives of 32 people and left hundreds injured.

This resulted in mass protests calling for the resignation of the Romanian government and local authorities.

Despite the resignation of Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Wednesday, protests across the country are continuing on Thursday.
