Bulgarian Law Provides for Current Benefits for Police Officers, Kalfin Says

Bulgaria should keep the compensation package paid to police officers upon retirement at its current level of 20 monthly wages, Labour Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said on Wednesday.
Maximum compensations paid upon retirement will be cut in half to 10, and paid leave will be reduced from 30 to 20 days once the 2016 budget draft is approved but only for future employees of the Interior Ministry, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said earlier on Wednesday.
The compensation package and the paid leave will remain unchanged for police officers currently in service.
“The package of 20 wages should remain in place as stipulated in the current Social Benefits Code,” Kalfin told the parliamentary committee on labour, demography and social policy, according to Focus news outlet.
A deadline has been set to differentiate between office workers at the Interior Ministry and those police officers whose job description requires work in hard and often dangerous conditions, Kalfin said.
