Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev will be on a two-day official visit to Portugal at the invitation of his Portuguese counterpart Anibal Cavaco Silva on Monday and Tuesday.

Among the topics of discussion will be the opportunities for widening the commercial-economic relations between the two countries, cooperation in the areas of education, science, innovations, culture as well as the migrant situation.

On Monday, Plevneliev will pay homage to the great Portuguese poet Luis Vaz de Camoes at his tomb in the Jeronimos monastery.

After that he will be received by his Portuguese counterpart and he will also meet Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho and the Assembly President Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues.

During his visit, a protocol for cooperation in the area of tourism training will be signed between the Bulgarian Tourism Ministry and the Portuguese Economy Ministry.

In Lisbon, Plevneliev will meet the mayor of the capital city, Fernando Medina, and he will be presented with the key to the city at a special ceremony.

On the second day of his visit, the Bulgarian president will meet representatives of Portuguese business and will present to them the investment potential of Bulgaria.

Plevneliev will also visit the Champalimaud foundation, a world centre for scientific research, developing the most progressive methods of treatment in the fields of neuroscience and oncology.
