Bulgaria: Bulgaria 'Might Become Iran-EU Transit Corridor' EPA/BGNES

Bulgaria might turn into a corridor transporting goods from Iran to the European Union, an Iranian official has said.

A meeting took place on Sunday between Mohsen Jalalpour, who heads the country's commerce and industry chamber, and Bulgaria's Ambassador to Tehran, Hristo Polendakov, TASS news agency reports citing Iran's IRNA.

"In view of the current economic situation, the atmosphere facilitates the development of bilateral relations and cooperation," Jalalpour is quoted as saying, adding Bulgaria for its part could use Iran as a transit hub for grain sold to other countries in the region.

TASS also quotes him as saying that a special agricultural delegation is to visit Bulgaria in June 2016.

This comes after reports earlier in October of Iranian and Bulgarian transport officials having signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work for the establishment of a transport corridor bypassing Turkey.
