According to Interior Minister, Rumuyana Bachvarova an increase in the influx of refugees to Bulgaria could be expected next summer.

Bachvarova said this in an interview for private bTV station on Tuesday.

She was firm that Bulgaria should have readiness to face the new developments and challenges arising from the refugee crisis.

In her opinion, the refugee wave was foreign policy issue of global scale, which will continue to affect the internal developments in many countries for years.

According to her, the end to the refugee crisis was not yet in sight, but for the moment Bulgaria has gained control of the current situation.

In her words, the interior ministry was working seriously towards addressing human trafficking, reminding that a week ago the police held a large-scale operation targeting smugglers.

Bachvarova noted that a new situation of insecurity and new challenges have emerged after the twin suicide bombings in Ankara on Saturday.

These developments required a new organisation and preparations on it have already started.

At present there were slightly below two million refugees in Turkey, but the likelihood of them heading towards Bulgaria was low, the interior minister added.
