Bulgaria: Bulgarian Authorities Detain Three Dutch Citizens Suspected of Terrorism

Bulgarian authorities detained three Dutch citizens, two men and a woman, suspected of terrorism at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.

The three people are sought by Dutch authorities for participation in a terrorist group, the preparation of a terrorist attack and murder, private bTV station informs.

One of the suspects is a 22-year-old Dutch citizen, who is accused of affiliations with Islamic State (IS) in Kenya.

He was declared wanted with a European Arrest Warrant issued by the district prosecutor's office of North Holland on October 3.

He was arrested in Turkey in December 2014 while attempting to cross into Syria.

The Turkish authorities had established that he maintains contacts with terrorists in Syria, but he has denied the charges against him.

The other suspect is a 18-year-old Dutch citizen, who is also declared wanted on charges of terrorism with a European Arrest Warrant issued by the district prosecutor's office of Central Netherlands.

According to authorities, there is evidence that he maintained contacts with affiliates of IS.

The district court in Haskovo left the two men in the arrest, while it is yet to deliver its ruling on the third suspect.

Before their arrest at the border with Turkey, the suspected terrorists stayed at a hotel in Sofia for several days.
