The Bulgarian government has approved the allocation of BGN 0.5 M in additional funding to the State Agency for National Security (DANS) amid increased migratory pressure coming from the border with Turkey.

Part of the funding for the country's domestic security and counter-intelligence agency will also be used to repair one of the buildings used by the institution, according to the cabinet's press service.

The money will be secured through restructuring of the 2015 state budget.

Bulgaria is currently not among the countries severely affected by the migrant crisis, with most people arriving in Europe from the Middle East, bound for Germany, use a route via Greece and then Macedonia.

However, authorities have warned they are ready to "protect the borders" if the influx of migrants goes up.
