Bulgaria: Wooden Sculptures Attract the Attention of the Tourists in the Open-Air Museum “Etar”

A spoon-shaped bench, a rug made out of pine logs, a door that “guarded” one home in the village of Bozhentsi one century ago…These plastic arts and several more “send” messages to the tourists that have set off for the craftsmen’s street of “Etar” open-air museum to see the by-gone reality.

The wooden sculptures, situated on the meadow of the museum, have been made during the Plein air” Avatars of Wood”, carried out from 23rd to 27th of September in the Ethnographic Complex.

Famous and young artists from Gabrovo and “Dupini” Art-group in Veliko Tarnovo have materialized their ideas out of wood and stone with the help of students from the National High-School of Applied Arts “Trevnenska Shkola” who participate with works of their own in the common exhibition.

The decorative compositions correspond to the atmosphere reminding of the by-gone time. The functional plastic arts already serve as a seating place for the tourists.

“They have been decided in simple, geometrical forms that are the most appropriate for the natural surroundings”, Orfey Mindov -one of the participants in the plein air explains.

In the form of a caterpillar is the “living bench”, situated in front of the children’s corner of the open-air museum. “The Rug” is also designed for seating, as well as the 4 meters long spoon, made out of pine.

“Its oval part has to become a flower stand”-is the idea of the master of the sculpture –Rumen Rachkov, who recommends a spoonful of nature per every hour.

The wooden sculptures will remain at the place where they have been created - in the boundaries of the “Bulgarka” Natural Park where the only one open-air museum in Bulgaria is situated.

The artistic event was carried out in the frames of the project “Realization of Activities for Organization and Management of “Bulgarka” Natural Park”, under contract for free financial help according to Operational Programme “Environment 2007-2013”, co- financed from the European Fund for Regional Development and Cohesion Fund of EU, priority axis 3 “Preservation and Restoration of the Biological Variety”.
