Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva has said no member state could be imposed to set up a migrant hotspot.

Kuneva has told the Bulgarian National Television's Friday weekly program Panorama that hotspots are "an opportunity to show solidarity" - points where Frontex officials will be additonally deployed to help process migrants' personal data and asylum requests.

This comes on a day of controversy after a misunderstanding between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

Earlier reports suggested Merkel had explained to Bulgaria it would receive funding from the EU if it decided to have a hotspot in its territory, whereas Sofia later replied it had not asked whether or not to build one.
