Bulgaria: Bulgarian Employers' Organisations Postpone Protest Against Electricity Prices

The Bulgarian employers' organisations are postponing the protest scheduled to take place on September 30 against the increase of the electricity prices.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the employers' organisations are postponing the protest due to the renewed dialogue with the government and parliament, daily Dnevnik informs.

However the protest is not altogether cancelled and employers' organisations continue to demand the resignation of the chairperson of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (KEVR) – Ivan Ivanov.

They welcomed the intention of the state to end the purchase of electricity at preferential prices as well as the introduction of sanctions on producers of renewable energy breaching the law.

They continue to insist on restoring the prices of electricity to the levels, which were in force prior to their increase on August 1.

According to them, there are reserves which could allow for restoration of the previous prices.

The employers expect that the implementation of a road map on reforms in the energy sector will begin on October 1.

The road map has not been completed yet and employers' organisations are insisting for participation in the working group dealing with it.

They are calling on the government to appoint an international audit to the energy sector and on the energy ministry to devise criteria on the selection of members to the board of directors of the state energy companies.
