Hungary plans to extend its razor-wire fence at the border with Serbia as far east as the border with Romania to prevent a potential inflow of migrants along alternative routes after shutting down the main land crossing on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

Hungary has already been building a 175-km (110-mile) razor wire fence on the border with Serbia, across the main land route used by migrants to enter the EU.

"We have made the decision to start preparatory works for the construction of a fence starting from the Hungarian-Serbian-Romanian border at a reasonable length should migration pressure shift in the direction of Romania," Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told a news conference, according to Reuters.
