Bulgaria: EU Commission Adopts Bulgarian-Greek Cross Border Cooperation Programme

The European Commission (EC) adopted on Wednesday the cross border cooperation Interreg programme for Bulgaria and Greece for the 2014-2020 period.

The programme is worth EUR 129 M, with more than EUR 110 M provided from the European Regional Development Fund, the press service of EC informs.

The main priority of the programme is to boost the competitiveness of SMEs and help them expand beyond local markets.

Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu stated that the programme will help the border regions of the two countries to work together and address common challenges.

Cretu assured that the new programme is clearly result-oriented and will bring a real change on the ground from improved transport infrastructure to new job opportunities.

The fifth programme period of Interreg has a budget of EUR 10.1 B, invested in more than 100 cooperation programmes.
