The EU has only provided symbolic assistance to Macedonia as the country is dealing with a surging migrant influx, Macedonian FM Nikola Poposki has said.

Commenting on the migrant issue that has assertively hit the country over the past days, he urged the EU to understand that a joint response to the crisis is needed in Europe.

"We are expecting treatment from the EU as [if we were] a EU member state," Macedonian news agency MIA was quoted as saying.

The country's top diplomat made clear Skopje was in constant contact with the EU and the UN to solve the issue.

He added that Macedonia would be unable to accept anymore refugees, since it doesn't have the capacity required.

The minister also warned that, up from the usual dynamics of 500-600 migrants per day waiting at the Macedonia-Greece border, "a few thousands [every day]."
