Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has insisted that higher state revenues over the past months suggest next year will be better in budgetary terms.
Speaking to reporters in the town of Smolyan in Southern Bulgaria, Borisov has made clear that Sofia has been doing its best to boost state earnings which were previously lower due to inefficient anti-smuggling campaign, according to the BGNES wire service.
Borisov boasted earlier in the summer that the state could increase revenues by more than BGN 2 B (EUR 1 B) by successfully combating smuggling activities.
He also praised the government for providing stability to a region of increased political turmoil, claiming the cabinets of nearly all neighboring countries were in trouble but not his.
"I am happy that MPs from the ruling party [GERB], from the opposition, from the coalition party [the Reformist Bloc] are here, because the situation in the Balkans is complicated: Turkey has no government, Greece has no government, Macedonia has no government [sic]. In Romania the Prime Minister has been toppled down," Borisov underscored.
