The latest round of negotiations on forming a coalition government in Turkey failed to reach agreement and the country is increasingly heading for early elections.
Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and leader of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) met with the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahceli on Monday.
Following their meeting, Davutoglu announced that Bahceli did not consider a coalition with the AKP possible, Daily Hurriyet informs.
MHP had presented four conditions for the formation of a coalition – ending the solution process with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), further investigation in corruption allegations against former AKP ministers, position of the Turkish presidency and the protection of the principle of separation of powers.
The nationalist leader even ruled out the participation of his party in a short-lived reform government or support for a minority AKP government.
Earlier negotiations between AKP and the Republican People's Party (CHP), which came second in the general elections in June, also failed to reach an agreement last week.
The deadline for forming a government expires on Sunday and after this date either Turkish President Recep Erdogan or parliament can call for the holding of early elections.
