NATO will Deploy Patriot Air Defense Systems in Ukraine
NATO has announced plans to send Patriot air defense systems to the embattled nation
Montenegro MPs have submitted to Parliament a resolution voicing support for the country's accession into NATO, regional news outlets have reported.
Debates on the document are to begin at an extraordinary session scheduled for September, according to Serbian agency Tanjug.
The resolution reads that NATO membership is in the interest not only of the state, but of all its citizens and is not an exclusive choice of "authorities or any party or [part of] the political or intellectual elite."
Authorities are pinning their hopes on formally receiving an invitation to join the Alliance by the end of the year.
During his several visits to Montenegro this year, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reiterated that an assessment whether the country is ready to become a NATO member will be carried out by end-2015.
Tanjug cites a recent poll suggesting that Montenegrins are almost equally divided between supporters and opponents of NATO integration (with 36.3% saying they were in favor, 37.3% against and 26.1% unsure).
