All print media outlets are going through inspections concerning their financial activities over the last five years, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) has said.
After reports emerged on Monday that only the books of Sega, a newspaper published by private gas company Overgas Inc., were being put under scrutiny, officials have announced that the inspection includes all newspapers and magazines.
They have cited a recent report prepared for the agency according to which there is a "risk" of tax evasion among print media publishers.
According to the NRA, its activities have no relation to editorial policies and are part of a "routine" procedure used to combat tax evasion, the agency says in a statement [BG] published on the Bulgarian-language version of its website.
Earlier, Sega claimed that it was being targeted by authorities over its comments about how the main ruling party GERB and the second-biggest opposition party DPS had joined hands to vote together on legislation in Parliament to obstruct reforms.
