Anti-Chavez Protests Bring Oil Industry to Halt

Anti-government protests brought Venezuela's oil industry to a virtual halt. Oil officials admit they were going to be unable to fulfil contracts, as a fifth day of a national strike was called by those who want Mr Chavez to agree to face a referendum on his rule. President Hugo Chavez has ordered the military to secure refineries and tankers in an attempt to maintain the flow of oil. The strikes are expected to have a huge impact on one of the most stable democracies in Latin America.
