The draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which was held in Saint Petersburg on Saturday, determined tough opponents for the Bulgarian men's national football team.

Bulgaria was drawn in qualification group A along with the teams of the Netherlands, France, Sweden, Belarus and Luxembourg.

The draw allocated 52 European teams into nine groups, with seven groups having six teams and two groups composed of five teams.

Bulgaria begins its qualifiers with a home match against Luxembourg on 6 September 2016 and concludes with a visit to the same opponent on 10 October 2017.

The top teams from all nine groups will qualify directly for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia, while the eight best second ranking teams will face each other in play-offs.
