With Greece’s Parliament set to vote on Wednesday on whether to ratify a controversial bailout-for-reforms deal with the country’s international creditors, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he had exhausted all negotiating capabilities and every possible solution.

“We tried to negotiate as best we could; no one can doubt the government's desire and efforts for a mutually acceptable solution,” Tsipras told lawmakers from his radical left party Syriza as they prepared to vote on the rescue package that requires painful pension cuts, tax increases and sale of state assets in exchange for badly needed bailout aid.

Addressing simmering discontent in Syriza ranks with the terms of the deal, Tsipras said that he is open to any “reliable and realistic alternatives” he may have overlooked, but called on MPs to maintain the party's unity, according to ekatimerini.com.

Parliament faces a deadline by midnight on Wednesday to pass the bailout bill.

The bailout deal that was agreed on by the eurozone leaders on 13 July after 17 hours of negotiations has to be approved by several national parliaments, including the Greek one.
