A gunman has shot dead a woman and a cyclist near the city of Ansbach in southern Germany on Friday, international newswires reported.

The woman was shot dead in Leutershausen-Tiefenthal and the cyclist was killed later in nearby Rammersdorf.

Police said they had arrested a suspect for the shooting at a gas station in Bad Windsheim. The suspect, who is believed to have opened fire from a moving car at his victims, is thought to have shot at a farmer and threatened another motorist, but both were unharmed.

Police is expected to hold a news conference in Ansbach on Friday afternoon.
