Bulgaria: Bulgarian Children Abandoned by Tour Firm While on Holiday in Spain

A group of Bulgarian schoolchildren visiting Spain have been accommodated in a refugee center after being abandoned by the tour operator which brought them there, the public TV reports.

As many as 31 children, an entire class, had just in Lloret de Mar (a resort in Catalonia, Spain), when it turned out the company, Gulliver Travel had not covered hotel expenses and left the them to their fate, according to the Bulgarian National Television.

The company's manager is unavailable to reach by phone, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it has also tried to contact representatives of the tour operator.

A vice-principal at the school where the children are studying later told private national bTV channel that the school will transfer by 11:30 (EEST) the money to the hotel where they were bound to stay.

The trip was set to continue until July 14, but it is likely that the schoolchildren might return sooner.

Bulgaria's Embassy to Madrid has been informed of the development.
