Bulgaria: Russian Space Freighter Carrying 2.4 T Cargo Docks with ISS

Russia’s Progress M-28M spacecraft carrying 2.4 tonnes of cargo docked with the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, breaking a string of failed attempts by Russian and US spacecraft.

The docking took place in automatic mode, according to an official of Roskosmos, Russia’s space agency, ITAR-TASS reported.

The Progress M-28M spacecraft delivered cargo that a Russian and a US unmanned spaceships were unable to carry to the space station due to accidents. The cargo includes fuel, air, oxygen, containers and equipment for scientific experiments, water and food.

US Dragon was the previous cargo spacecraft that had successfully docked with the ISS in April of this year.

Late in April, Roskosmos lost its Progress M-27M space freighter with some 2.5 tonnes of cargo onboard. The spacecraft spun out of control as it entered orbit April 28 following liftoff from Kazakhstan on a Soyuz rocket.

US spacecraft Dragon carrying about two tonnes of cargo was lost at liftoff last Sunday. Following the accident, the head of mission control for the Russian segment of ISS, Vladimir Solovyev, proposed that Progress M-28M carry some of the supplies that Dragon spacecraft was supposed to deliver to the ISS.
