Bulgaria Seizes 5.6 Kg Heroin at Border with Turkey

Bulgarian customs officials have seized 5.6 kilograms of heroin at Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint at the border with Turkey, the National Customs Agency said on Tuesday.

The narcotic was discovered in a German-registered Mercedes passenger car crossing Bulgaria en route from Turkey to Germany. Following an X-ray inspection of the vehicle, the customs officers discovered the heroin stashed in four metal canisters hidden in the fuel tank of the car.  

The car driver, a Turkish citizen permamently residing in Germany, has been detained, the customs agency said in a statement.
