Taiwan: Taiwan Looking into Fire that Injured Hundreds

Colored powder is thought to have been behind the incident at an amusement park outside Taiwan's capital Taipei that left hundreds injured, officials say.

At least 83 have serious injuries as a result of the fire, and 132 have been left with minor body burns, according to the CNA news agency.

Some sources suggest the number of injured could have surpassed 300. Focus Taiwan News Channel puts it at 349 as of 01:51 EEST, while CNN?s figures suggest they are as many as 472.

The country's fire department is quoted by the BBC as saying that it might have been "the heat of lights on the stage" that set the powder on fire. Temperatures in Taipei had reached 36.6 C during the day.

There was a concert in the amusement park at the time of the incident which had brought together about 1000 people.

The facility is now shut down pending an investigation.
