British Government Proposes Hunting Compromise

Hunting with dogs could be banned in some areas of England and Wales but allowed under licence elsewhere. Britain's Rural Affairs Minister Alan Michael has recommended a complete ban on stag hunting and hare coursing. Under the government plans, using dogs to hunt other animals including foxes will be judged on a case-by-case basis. To continue hunts will have to meet two conditions: a need for pest control and the lack of a "less cruel method." The Labour Party pledged to address this sensitive issue even before it came to power in 1997.
