The service in office of the entire Municipal Council in Pavel Banya has been terminated. The decision was made by the local electoral commission on Friday, as reported by the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

Municipal MPs will be gathering today at around 2 pm to hold an extraordinary meeting.

The decision for the termination of the right of service of the entire Municipal Council is a first time occurrence in Bulgaria. The event resulted after the council was not able to hold a regular sitting for over three months. According to the Bulgarian legislation, the council needs to be resumed from service and new elections will be scheduled over the course of the next three months.

Currently, officers from the local municipality are holding a discussion to issue a declaration directed to the Prime Minister, President and the Chair of the National Assembly to overturn the decision taken by the municipal electoral commission. In the words of the Chair of the Municipal Council, Hristina Petrova, the decision is a sabotage attempt on the part of people willing to overturn local authorities.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of the municipality Stanimir Radevski the event occurred because the decisions of the council have been severely affected by the will of the MP from the liberal DPS party Isa Besoolu. His mandate had to be terminated three years ago when his verdict on account of corruption entered into force.

In a May interview for the Bulgarian National radio the mayor Stanimir Radevski called the local businessman turned MP ''the octopus of the municipality that has spread his tentacles everywhere''. He added that even if the small town might need to adjust its annual budget, Besoolu needs to be asked first.

After the MP was deemed guilty on the corruption case, the DPS party stated that it will be contesting the court decision and will even bring up the case in international court on account of violation of Besoolu's human rights.
