Bulgarian Exports to EU, Third Countries Increase in First Quarter of 2015

According to preliminary figures of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), which were released on Tuesday, Bulgarian exports to both the EU and third countries increased, but the country's trade balance remained negative.

Bulgarian exports to the EU in the first quarter of 2015 amounted to BGN 6.9 B, which represented an increase of 12 % compared to the same period last year.

The main trading partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece, France and Belgium, which together accounted for 69.9 % of Bulgarian exports to the EU.

In March, Bulgarian exports to the EU amounted to BGN 2.4 B, which represented an increase of 11.3 % compared to the same month in 2014.

Bulgarian imports from the EU in the first quarter of 2015 amounted to BGN 7.8 B, which represented an increase of 7.2 % compared to the same period last year.

The main trading partners in this respect were Germany, Italy, Romania, Spain and Greece.

In March, Bulgarian imports from the EU amounted to BGN 2.9 B, which represented an increase of 14.4 % compared to the same month in 2014.

The largest growth in Bulgarian exports to the EU was registered in the sectors mineral fuels, oils and similar products and unprocessed (raw) materials, while there was drop in the export of soft and alcohol drinks and tobacco.

The opposite trend is visible in the figures on Bulgarian imports from the EU, with soft and alcohol drinks and tobacco registering the largest growth, while mineral fuels, oils and similar products recorded the greatest drop.

Bulgarian exports to third countries in the first four months of 2015 amounted to BGN 5.4 B, which represented an increase of 13.8 % compared to the same period last year.

Bulgaria's main trading partners were Turkey, China, Serbia, Singapore, the USA and Russia, which together accounted for 51 % of Bulgarian exports to third countries.

In April, Bulgarian exports to third countries amounted to BGN 1.5 B, which represented an increase of 12.8 % compared to the same month in 2014.

Bulgarian imports from third countries in the first four months of 2015 amounted to BGN 6.2 B, which represented an increase of 1.3 % compared to the same period last year.

The main trading partners in this respect were Russia, Turkey, China and Ukraine.

In April, Bulgarian imports from third countries amounted to BGN 1.7 B, which represented a decrease of 0.8 % compared to the same month in 2014.

The trade balance of Bulgaria with third countries in the first four months of 2015 was negative BGN 799.2 M.

The largest growth in Bulgarian exports to third countries was registered in the sectors fats, oils and waxes from animal and plant origin and diverse ready-made products, while the greatest drop was recorded in the exports of soft and alcohol drink and tobacco.

As regards Bulgarian imports from third countries, the largest growth was registered in the sectors food and live animals and unprocessed (raw) materials, while the greatest drop was recorded in soft and alcohol drinks and tobacco.
